It is about time we take global warming seriously. The latest statement from NASA said that due to the melting glaciers, Mumbai is at high risk of flooding. There is a possibility of massive flood over the city. And this is not going to happen in far future, but it may happen in just a few years.
Leaders across the globe have been pointing towards the subject. India was also one of the participants of the global summit in Paris, 2015. The leaders have discussed their plans to control the damage. However, there is lack of efforts can clearly be seen on bringing the awareness to the common folks. This is a subject for the study that why we are not taking it seriously.
The Delhi is one of the most polluted cities in the world and now Mumbai and Mangaluru are facing the threat of flood. We at least need to take interest in knowing the actual facts. Instead of debating over elections and few political parties, we should learn what we can actually lose if we don’t get serious about global warming.
Due to increasing sea levels, Mangaluru is at great risk of flooding. The data from NASA points towards the melting glaciers for the higher risk of flooding. It unfortunate circumstances can possibly be arrived in next hundred years. The melting of the glacier may add the sea level of the city by 15.98cm. On the other hand, Mumbai may face the increased sea level by 15.26cm. The data shows the rise in sea level for New York by 10.65cm.
These data may seem unimportant to common people as we are all busy with our lives and we care less about such threats that have still 100 years. Well, this attitude needs to be changed. We need to put efforts on our side. Organizations can initiate to educate their employees about global warming and what they can do to reduce its effects.
Well, this study, which was published in journal Science Advances. It was carried out by the scientists at NASA’S Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The experts took help of the Gradient Fingerprint Mapping (GFM) and forecasting tool. With the help of such tools, researchers determined the increasing sea levels for nearly 293 major port cities. Mumbai and Mangaluru are among the list of these cities. This was also reported by the Hindustan Times.
Let’s see what have the great leaders across the globe have suggested in order to stop global warming.
“There are more effective ways of tackling environmental problems including global warming, the proliferation of plastics, urban sprawl, and the loss of biodiversity than by treaties, top-down regulations, and other approaches offered by big governments and their dependents.” ~Preston Manning
Canadian scientist David Suzuki said, “If we want to address global warming, along with the other environmental problems associated with our continued rush to burn our precious fossil fuels as quickly as possible, we must learn to use our resources more wisely, kick our addiction, and quickly start turning to sources of energy that have fewer negative impacts.”
Oscar winner actor Leonardo DiCaprio has a clear and strong view on the subject. He said, “Our oil-based society depends on non-renewable resources. It requires relentless probing into vast reaches of the pristine land, sacrificing vital bioregions, and irreplaceable cultures. The possibility of catastrophic climate change is substantially increased by the 40 million barrels of oil burned every day by vehicles. We must all move shoulder to shoulder in a unified front to show this administration that the true majority of people are willing to vote for a cleaner environment and won’t back down.”
Let’s see how organizations can contribute to making the earth a better place.
You don’t have to create your own unit for generating renewable energy. However, you need to choose a company that generates the power from natural resources such as wind, sun or water. This can be a good support for the environment. Along with that wasting, less water can really be a great help. Motivate your employees to use energy-efficient appliances can also make a noticeable difference. Using bulb that is made with advanced techniques and consumes less energy is also helpful. Next time you buy a car, your focus should be on mileage. With all these little efforts from our side, we can make a significant difference together.
